Myofacial Release

Myofascial Release is a highly specialized stretching technique used by physical therapists to treat patients with a variety of soft tissue problems.

Fascia is located between the skin and the underlying structure of muscle and bone, it is a seamless web of connective tissue that covers and connects the muscles, organs, and skeletal structures in our body.

Injuries, stress, trauma, and poor posture can cause restriction to fascia. The goal of myofascial release is to release fascia restriction and restore its tissue.

What should I expect?

Myofascial release combines low load, long duration stretching of a specific fascial plane. At the same time, your therapist will facilitate release of fascial restrictions with sustained pressure or gliding along the fascial planes.

At re+ACTIVE, myofascial release is often used in combination with dry needling, cupping, or IASTM and is always followed with functional movement in the direction of the restriction and corrective exercises to address any weaknesses.
